changes to my study programme
The sociology curriculum is divided into 10 semesters. The semesters are grouped into "cycles". The first is the initial cycle, which consists of 4 semesters and has general training courses. The second is the deepening cycle, which consists of 4 semesters and elective courses. The last one is the professionalization cycle, which consists of 2 semesters and there are no more classes. In the two semesters, the degree seminar and the professional practice are done.
In most of the courses, the professors give us written evaluations, essays or research. So far, almost all the content of the classes is theoretical and you need to read a lot of texts, especially in the "theory" courses. In my first year I got to know e-journals and scientific articles, now they are my favorite sources of information. The articles are useful because they have a summary and key words that help reading.
This is my first year studying in presential modality, so I don't know all the places. I usually just walk around the social sciences faculty and study in the philosophy faculty library, it is very quiet and peaceful.
Finally, the changes I would make are, decrease the courses there are on history. I think the courses are important to know the background of the current context, but I think there are too many. In the whole career there are three courses, History of Modern Society, Social History of Latin America and Social History of Chile. Maybe the courses could be compacted and be two.
